Nandrolone Phenylpropionate is very similar to Nandrolone Decanoate in composition and is a very popular anabolic steroid. Nandrolone Phenylpropionate was the first commercially sold Nandrolone compound. It was first introduced in the market in 1950’s and its commercial name was Durabolin. Nandrolone Phenylpropionate is commonly known as NPP. It was not a very popular steroid previously. It was not as easily available few years back as it is now. Nandrolone Phenylpropionate has both performance as well as therapeutic benefits.
How does it work?
Chemically, Nandrolone Phenylpropionate is a 19- nortestosterone steroid in which the carbon atom has been replaced at the 19th position. The change at the 19th position forms the Nandrolone and addition of Phenylpropionate, which is a small ester, gives us NPP. Both Nandrolone Phenylpropionate and Nandrolone Decanoate are made up of same active hormone. To ensure that the blood levels are stable, large doses of NPP are required.
Testosterone has an anabolic rating of 100 whereas NPP has anabolic rating of 125 therefore it is more anabolic in nature than testosterone. It is less androgenic than testosterone with a rating of 37, which in testosterone’s case is 100. Because of its low androgenic rating some men can tolerate NPP in higher doses as compared to testosterone.
NPP causes increase in the production of IGF- 1 factor which is imperative for the normal functioning of all cells in the body. NPP also reduces the production of glucocorticoids which are also commonly known as stress hormones. Though they are essential for our well being, if they are produced in large numbers they can cause loss in muscle mass and increase in fat gain. It increases the retention of nitrogen. It also helps in the increase of rate of synthesis of proteins. Using this steroid helps in the increase of the number of Red blood Cells which help in the increase of level of oxygen in the blood stream. It helps in increase of the mineral content of the bones and helps in improving the synthesis of collagen as well.
Also, NPP has proven to be helpful in the treatment of diseases such as breast cancer, treatment of burns, pituitary dwarfism, cancer, HIV etc.
For male, the standard prescribed dosage is between 50mg – 100 mg per week. It is generally not prescribed for women but in cases where it is the dosage is 50mg/week.
In bodybuilders and athletes, dose of 200 mg has proven to improve recovery whereas 100 mg can give therapeutic relief. For preservation of muscle tissues and for the purpose of body building the ideal dosage is 300mg- 400 mg/ week.
Mostly, all athletes are prescribed the recommended dosage for a period of 8-12 weeks.
Once an athlete stops the intake of NPP the levels of testosterone return back to normal.
NPP can have estrogenic side effects such as gynecomastia, high blood pressure and water retention. In men, androgenic side effects of NPP are highly unlikely. In men who are sensitive, acne can occur. Men who are genetically predisposed to baldness and hair loss may experience hair fall. With this steroid, genetic factors have a large role to play. The side effects of NPP on the levels of HDL can be more than testosterone. The negative side effect of NPP can be inhibited by using an Aromatic Inhibitor or AI.
Use of NPP suppresses the level of testosterone. It is inevitable with the use of NPP. Therefore it is advisable that men who take NPP supplement with other form of external testosterone. Once it has been discontinued, the level of testosterone will return to normal slowly and steadily.
